אם אתם גיימרים של מחשב אני בטוח שאתם מכירים את Discord, שהיא ככל הנראה תוכנת המסרים הייעודית לגיימרים הגדולה והפופולארית ביותר בעולם. התוכנה עלתה לאוויר לראשונה בשנת 2015 ומאז היא רק נמצאת בעלייה.
הדיווח שפורסם באתר Bloomberg טוען כי בעלי דיסקורד נמצאים במגעים ראשוניים לרכישה עם מספר רוכשים פוטנציאליים, בניהם חברת Epic Games ואפילו Amazon. בנוסף לאלה ישנה שמועה שראש מותג Xbox פיל ספנסר נמצא גם הוא בשיחות עם בעלי דיסוקרד בנוגע לרכישת התוכנה, אבל נכון לרגע זה אין עוד שום פרטים רשמיים על כך שנסגרה עסקה כלשהי. כמו כן ישנן שמועות הטוענות שבמידה ולא תימכר, דיסקורד ככל הנראה תונפק בבורסה בקרוב.
אמנם דיסקורד היא תוכנה שפותחה באופן רשמי עבור גיימרים מכל העולם, אבל בעקבות מגיפה הקורונה שמתחוללת בכל העולם כבר יותר משנה, משתמשים רבים החלו להשתמש בתוכנה גם לשם צרכים שלא קשורים לגיימינג קל, ככל הנראה בכלל הקלות הרבה בשימוש שלה והיכולת ליצור שרתים וחדרים ייעודיים למגוון רחב של שימושים בין אנשים.
ההצלחה המטורפת של דיסקורד היא כמובן הסיבה לסכום המכירה העצום עליו דווח, כ-10 מיליארד דולר. הדיווח על סכום זה דווח לראשונה באתר VentureBeat, שם נמסר כי דיסקורד נמצאת בשלבי חיפוש מתקדמים לעסקה עם חברה כלשהי לטובת מכירה, כאשר ישנה חברה כלשהי הנמצאת עם דיסקורד במגעים מתקדמים, ואולי אפילו נחתמו בין שתי החברות הסכמים כלשהם שבקרוב ייחשפו באופן רשמי. שוב, לא ברור באיזו חברה מדובר בפועל, אבל רוב הדיווחים הנוספים ובניהם הדיווח של בלומברג בנושא אכן מצביעים על כך שמייקרוסופט היא הרוכשת, דבר שנראה לי די הגיוני בהתחשב בעובדה שבתקופה האחרונה החברה נמצאת במהלך מסע קניות חסר מעצורים, בייחוד אחרי שרכשה את חברת Zenimax בשנה שעברה.
